Embedded Spreadsheets are Handy

But end up funnily too small?  I know nothing of spreadsheets, but understand their power now that I've been squinting at NES carts all night.  Heres my loose NES cart collection in spreadsheet form!

Nifty!  Heres a maybe more readable form:

Google Sheets Loose NES List

I've been using http://videogames.pricecharting.com/console/nes?sort-by=name as a guide for current values of my collection.  This site uses an aggregate of current sales from ebay, amazon and half.com.  I'm only having trouble finding info on one game.  Its a white cart, has no label and I guess it has Tecmo Bowl in it?  Weird.

Anyway, $1,140 is a tidy sum.

The Journey has Begun

Hi, my name is Dave, and I have a problem collecting things.

Here's where you say, "Hi, Dave," then I explain the consequences of my actions and how I'm working on taking steps to bettering myself.  At least, that's how it goes on tv.  I've been watching a lot of Elementary lately.

So, here it goes.  My secret plans to sell off the bulk of my video game collection is no longer a secret.  I didn't want to say it out loud, or even acknowledge the idea's existence.  It has, however, been gnawing at me from the back of my head for almost as long as I had been planning to propose.  I had been planning that for awhile.  I got the "yes", and now the planning has begun for the wedding.

Yes, the wedding, and the realization that weddings are super expensive!  Even small ones.  My expectations for myself are to raise as much money as I can. It doesn't feel right to skimp on a wedding, or to ask my parents and her's to front the entire bill

Here's where I come back to my opening line.  We live comfortably, but do live paycheck to paycheck.  The one asset that I have is actually many little assets collected over ten years.  I say ten years, but really its been a lifetime.  Ten years of actively searching through thrift stores, Salvation Army's, garage and yard sales.  By only spending a couple bucks here and there over time I've amassed a substantial amount of stuff.  Now its time for that stuff to go.

But not before I catalog whats there.  It can't ALL go away  Some of these games and machines remind me of good times, good friends, specific moments and era's of my life that I want to hold on to.  I'm starting this blog as documentation of the process of sifting through all that is there.  For now here are some pictures of what my shelves looked like last year.

Thats not everything!  There will be more to see.
